Let's begin.

I have seen discourse of late that people do not wish to vote in the upcoming POTUS election, for reasons that include but are not limited to Donald Trump being a piece of shit, and also Joe Biden selling weapons to Israel, thus making him complicit in that thing that's happening with Israel and Palestine. Are we allowed to use the G word? Idunno.

Lots of the anti-not-voting crowd will try to talk down to you, insinuate that you're probably just a Russian troll or a moron or something.

Not me. Although I too am anti-not-voting, I want to try something different, to wit: I understand.

I get it. I appreciate that Joe Biden is shit. Certainly he's not the shittiest shit that ever shat. He's not even shitty shit. Just regular shit.

If we're being fair (although I don't know why we would be. This is tumblr after all), Biden has done lots of good stuff while in office. I mean, I don't know what any of them are, but I saw a list floating around a while back that had a bunch of stuff on it that Biden had done right. I think there was something about insulin being price capped? I'm prepared to accept out of hand the possibility that there exists things that Biden has done right. Mainly because I'm too lazy to look it up and also don't really care enough about Biden's merits beyond "He's not Trump" to bother.

But yes, good stuff or not, Biden is shit. He may have done good things, but he has also done shitty things. Things which include but which are not limited to that thing that's happening with Israel and Palestine, the status of which remains in limbo, viz a viz, the G word.

Of all the shitty people that have ever lived, Joe Biden is one of them.

And I appreciate that both candidates are senile and decrepit and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and.

I perfectly understand all the reasons you have to not vote. In fact, I could probably give you a few more. Like "He's not The Real Eagal." which is in my incredibly humble and completely non-biased opinion the best possible reason to not vote for someone.

In difference circumstances, I wouldn't vote for Biden either if I were you.

But Trump is worse. You get that, right? Biden and Trump are both terrible in different ways, but they are not equally terrible. Trump is worse. On a terribleness scale of 1 to 10, Biden is a two. Trump is an eleven. Hundred. Thousand. Million.

He could be up against literally Sauron and Trump would still be worse. At least Sauron came by it honest. He built his evil empire without help from anyone. Morgoth was already...wherever Morgoth ended up after Eru Iluvatar slapped him down to remind him who's daddy. Ok, he did have Celebrimbor's help to make the rings of power, but didn't he make the One Ring on his own? All I'm saying is, I'd rather have Sauron in office than Donald Trump.

Trump is literally deciding who he wants his next VP to be based on how much he wants to fuck their wives. Sauron wouldn't decide who his cohorts were based on how much he wants to fuck their wives. Sarumon didn't even have a wife.

Plus, Biden's not gonna last 4 more years. He's like a jillion years old. He'll croak 2 days after inauguration. And even if he did last all four years, the world can survive four more years of Biden. A bowling alley couldn't survive four more years of Trump.

And if Kamalah Harris is still Biden's VP when he kicks the bucket, it would probably kill off a few Republicans. Their brains would explode at the mere thought of a black woman president. That's what we in "The Biz" call a win-win.

No one will like to hear this, but there's nothing you can do to stop the world from being shitty today - today meaning this current era, not literally this specific day. Sorry, kids, but that ship has sailed.

Voting for Biden won't make the sun rise. It won't make the grass grow, it won't make the birds sing. Voting for Biden won't Save Our Democracy™ BUT speaking only for myself, I don't think it would be an exaggeration to say that if Trump gets re-elected there's a good chance that there won't be another election, notwithstanding all the other many and varied reasons Trump getting back into office would be a terrible idea.

No question that in ideal times both Trump and Biden would already be swinging from the gallows and we'd be voting between Jesus and Buddha. Personally, I'll vote Buddha. For two reasons. 1: Jesus' fan club is kind of insufferable. No offense, big J, but you gotta give those people a good long talking-to if you want my vote. And 2: According to the excellent documentary series Record of Ragnarok, Buddha is an amazing fighter. He fought a fuckin' monster from hell and won. Dude's a badass.

But these are not ideal times in which we live. Again, no one will like to hear this, but the lesser of two evils, however unpleasant it may be, can be a necessary evil. And Joe Biden is, without question, the much much MUCH lesser evil.

Compromise is a four-letter word, but needs must, as they say, when the Devil drives. And if we want there to be a better tomorrow - for some people it will be "if we want there to even be a tomorrow at all" - we gotta hold our nose and vote Biden.

You got a better idea? One that doesn't involve crashing a bus into the nearest combination orphanage/puppy store in the hopes that the resultant tragedy will cause the downfall of civilization and Civilization 2 will work better because we already worked out all the kinks the first time? Even though the whole reason you got rid of the first one is that you hadn't worked out all the kinks and were too lazy to finish the job?

Not voting doesn't work. You can boycott a business. Maybe. You can't boycott a government. They're already in control. They're not going to change that just because some rando decided he's guilty

And I mean, there are other ways to deal with an unruly government. France is quite famous for its ideas on the subject, but if we're taking votes on that avenue, I'm going to have say "nay." The last thing anyone needs right now is another damn Napoleon.

So maybe tomorrow - "tomorrow" here meaning the next era, ten or twenty or thirty or forty or fifty or however many fuckin' years down the line - Joe Biden will be dead and good riddance to his wrinkly old ass and we'll get the chance to vote for someone else. Among all the shitty people who have ever lived, this future someone won't be one of them probably. I'll bet my bottom dollar on it.

It could happen. In an infinite universe all things are possible, so maybe.

And whatever of the many flaws that Joe Biden possesses, Trump has all these and more.

Joe tacitly endorses violent suppression of protests? Trump had a group of protestors gassed so that he could get a photo-op in front of a church.

Joe has a tendency to get a bit handsy with women? Trump is a rapist.

Joe is kinda racist in that way that old people are kinda racist without being overtly anti-minority? Trump is a Nazi. Or at least extremely Nazi-adjacent.

Joe is drinking the Israel kool-aid? Didn't Trump move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem or some shit, thus clearly favoring Israel over Palestine? Something to that effect? I remember that something like that happened and it being kind of a big deal. Yes? No? Maybe so? Regardless, do you think that Trump wouldn't mainline the kool-aid? He'd be selling Irsael nukes inside of a week.

Joe vaguely shady? Vaguely criminally shady? Trump is a convicted felon. 34 counts, wasn't it? Plus like a hundred more indictments or some shit on top.

While it is true that not voting won't directly put Trump back in the White House, it certainly won't help keep him out of it.

So my advice to you, my children, is this: Vote Biden. Don't do it because you want Biden to be president. Do it because you don't want Trump to be president.

Don't vote for the betterment of mankind. Or the United States. Or your individual state. Don't even vote because the cool kids are voting. Don't vote because you particularly give two soggy shits about the future.

Vote out of spite. Do it to spite Trump. Do it out of the pettiness of not wanting Trump to be president. Not for any of his policies, but just because his face is stupid.

I prefer to keep this account separate from politics, just for the sake of mental health and being able to have something that is fun and not serious. However, I really am genuinely confused as to wtf happened tonight in the election.

I was so confident that it would be close and that Harris/Waltz would win in a landslide. Nope. In fact, they lost in a landslide.

I'm having trouble understanding how a CONVICTION FELON who incited an insurrection on the Capitol, threatening to overturn the very right that each civilian in this country (and that was fought for by the Civil Rights Movement and Suffragette movement), which led to multiple people being killed, a shock to the nation, etc. is now back in the very office he was so dedicated to ruining.

As far as I've seen, and from what I've kept up with, he only has *concepts* of a plan. In a country that is so vital in the world and that indirectly affects other nations, you CANNOT have C O N C E P T S of a plan!!! People are struggling to survive, us college students are struggling to get by with the hundreds of thousands of dollars we racked up in debt in order to get an education. Children are years behind in reading levels, education funding keeps getting cut, abortion rights are at stake (regardless of whether or not politicians say they do not plan on banning abortion), lgbtq+ lives will be affected, minority lives will be affected, etc.

What are the plans for Medicare/Medicaid? What healthcare system do you have in mind? How can the middle and working class be relieved of the price gouging and inflation that makes them struggle to pay rent/bills? Our food is basically poisoned, Americans are still dealing with the aftermath of two major hurricanes, mothers and infants are dying at an increased rate after the abortion bans in certain states, the foster care system is STILL screwed, children are STILL being killed in school, Russia wants Ukraine for whatever reason, North Korea is blowing up roads to South Korea for some reason, and for some reason Israel is commiting a genocide in Palestine still. And much MUCH more.

How do you NOT include policies that you plan to enact in your speech? I listened to it all. Family was introduced, a woman I've never heard of was introduced, the future VP talked, some bald guy talked, and there was little to NOTHING SPECIFIC about the policies for this country?!?? There was talk about keeping the promise from the first term. What were those promises? The border wall? What were they? It was never repeated. Then there was rambling about Russia and China. Why speak upon them first, especially when you only have *concepts* of a plan?!?! What about those concerned about the bomb threats? Even though there were no bombs, there was nothing addressed about the fact that someone was trying to intimidate Americans from performing their civic duty (at least from what I heard). Did you comfort them? Encourage them to stay in the polls and make sure their voices are heard? And what about the cheating claims in Philly? It was hardly after PA started returning results!! It's a repeat of the past--claiming fraud because you didn't win in that area.

And the attacks on Harris and how she let people out of jail. Now there's a convicted felon in the office. And what about the economy? It was worse due to the pandemic, which was highly politicized and resulted in so many preventable deaths. At least Harris has a plan. Not just concepts.

To say that I am disappointed is an understatement. Bewildered is more like it. Again, I try to keep this one social media account away from politics, but me and everyone on my dorm building floor were in shock. We know nothing about future policies that will be heading our way. We're confused.

I'm literally torn this election. Everyone in my family is big Trumpers and I felt almost peer pressured into registering Republican. I'm actually more libertarian if anything. Now I'm undecided with the ballot. I don't deeply hate trump but I don't deeply care for him either. I think he's funny in like a meme-able way. Other than that I find him tolerable. But I can't stand Kamala either. I know vice presidents can't do much but it's like she sat there and let Biden ruin the country in a downward spiral. Not even once did she try to persuade him different. The border is in shambles, everything seems sky high with prices. Students loans aren't forgiven. Biden has said lots of racist things ( black kids are just as smart as white kids, he didn't want his kids growing up in a racial jungle, supported for segregation) and Kamala knowing this still decided to back him. I feel like she's two faced. With Trump i feel like I know what I'm working with if that makes sense. She kisses Israels ass but then calls for a ceasefire. She seems nervous like her voice is about to give out then startes laughing awkwardly. I don't know but she seems to ditzy. Honestly I dislike Hilary Clinton but I'd think she'd be a better candidate than Kamala, even Michelle Obama. You are feeling hopeful because voting for a black fem president makes you feel like it will solve every problem, except it won't and she really isn't good.

She will not improve the housing crisis, because she not addressing the problem. The issues with jacked up prices isn't scarcity it's greed of landlords and of reality agencies hiking up the prices, if you wanted to combat that, you introduce rent roofs and limits of house prices. But if she did that, she'd alienate the upper middle class that she so extensively wants to court, so that's a no. As it stands this will give landlords more properties to hike up rent for and reality agencies more plots to charge way too much for, but hey it sounds catchy to say ig.

Medical care will become more relieving for the middle class that can afford it, which sounds nice in theory but again, middle class is predominantly white, and the lower class that doesn't even have money to get insurance or to afford very specific medication regardless does not benefit. Again she is a wealthy liberal, she will not help women poc and lgbtq people beyond empty platitudes.

When she last explicitly said she supports defending the police, which was in may 2020 she walked that opinion back the moment she became Biden's VP pick. And her position hasn't been changed since, and has gotten worse as she supports militarisation in general. She was lying then to appeal electable, and it didn't work, so they returned to courting centrism. Good job

But Palestine is a more important topic she should change her stance to, need I remind you people are dying there now, right now, you can wait, until after an arms embargo is made. Also her ceasefire promises are a sham, they're not solving anything, the sole goal of the ceasefire talks headed by the us is to get one done so Harris can look good by claiming to mediate a ceasefire.

Except when you read about how the ceasefire talks go you learn it's just US putting pressure on Palestine to essentially surrender and acquiesce to being occupied by Israel. I know this is not going to be a popular take online but honestly Kamala Harris is the first politician to ever make me feel even a little sliver of hope in my entire adult life.

I think that a Harris-Walz administration could do wonderful things for women's rights, and I think they could do a better job of bridging pay gaps and providing housing aid to people across the US. She's already proposed to a) build more homes and b) increase affordable housing stock. That's great.

Also, queer rights wise, Walz has already a) banned conversion therapy in MN and b) made trans-affirming healthcare more accessible. This is a stark contrast with Trump's proposal to essentially make being queer publicly illegal, take away trans healthcare, and eliminate queer media stories that we can see ourselves in.

And let's talk about education! Student debt relief, free school lunches for K-12 students, greater accessibility to resources that make teaching all subjects easier.

Medical care will certainly become more accessible. Even if it isn't free, she has said she wants to offer reduced rates on necessary medications. And you know what Trump is going to do? Jack up the prices. Like, cancer treatments and insulin will be unaffordable and tons of sick and disabled people will DIE. Also, abortion! That's health care! Women are going to die under Trump, especially when he wants to TRACK PREGNANCIES!

I'm getting really frustrated by the narrative that Harris specifically is simply "the lesser of two evils" in the same way that Biden was. She has outlined actual actionable steps to improve rights across the US. Both she and Walz have demonstrated that they can and will make things better than they currently are.

"Kamala the cop" is doing nothing when she has literally argued for defunding the police recently.

"But Palestine-" She's already calling for ceasefires, and she's going to be better than Trump no matter what. Also don't throw other minorities under the bus and literally let us die under the Trump administration for a single issue. Queer, disabled people, and people of colour in the US do not deserve to die for a moral stance. It's incredibly important, but not the only important thing.

"But I don't like two party politics-" no one does babydoll, but it's what we've got. We can take action and protest this system in the future, just as we can and should continue to protest for Palestine. But like, we are not dismantling a deeply ingrained system in the next three months, and it's short-sighted and idealistic to pretend we can.

IN CONCLUSION I actually think Harris-Walz can do a LOT of good and I'm sick of pretending that they're just a non-Trump placeholder in the same way that Biden was.

Occasionally, I get campaign texts from the Harris-Walz team asking for $5, $10, $20, and now 40 god forsaken dollars. Ain’t now way I’m donating Jack shit to their campaign so they can keep funding the genocide in Palestine. I know it’s useless, and the texts are sent en masse or whatever, but I respond to say “Free Palestine and I’ll send you a stinking donation, permanent ceasefire now and I’ll double it.”

They won’t read it, they won’t respond, I could just say STOP to quit, but on the off chance they do see it, I hope they get the point. I’m only voting for their campaign to protect democracy from far right fascists, to protect women’s rights and gay rights. I will not knowingly fund their campaign to send more bombs to Israel.

If there were better options, I’d take it, but she’s all we got in this 2 party system. It’s either voting for a criminal, rapist, fascist, authoritarian, weirdo, loser, or voting for a former DA, VP who sides with militarizing the police sometimes, OR staying at home and watching the worst guys win.

My feelings about this election are complicated, but not as complicated as they were in 2016. We can’t ever let the rotting orange back in office, but we can also demand better from the party that’s at least halfway on the progressive side.

All that to say I think it’s hilarious they’re raising the prices of their donations the closer we get to the election, especially considering the fact they’re not even playing to their base, they’re playing to the centrists who are somehow undecided.

The median house price in the USA is 410 000 dollars, a 25000 for only first time buyers is nothing. I would not consider a policy the candidate is uncommitted to making as a valid one for the exercise, but we'll consider it a conditional (1) just because I'm nice.

Term limits and nominations for scotus are not beneficial policies to the US populace. And the only context of this being good for the us populace because the court is currently majorly republican won't get resolved because we do not know what form the supposed reform will have and how long it would let the justices remain on the seat, and it is not set to occur as the court is the body that will interpret how the law will actually function and you're delusional of you think the court will want to strip it own power willingly. Additionally if the terms outlast the presidential candidate who encouraged the reform and the house actually commits to it, it can be very easily amended by the opposing party once they get to power again. Improbable, but most importantly not a beneficial policy, so no.

The current democratic government of the Us is already fascist, it already is committing genocides with other fascist governments, and is using nationalistic language (strongest military in the world to protect ua from the enemies of the us) and othering (Said other beings russia, China and the middle east.). This is not a beneficial change, this is a weak appeal and scaremonger for other white liberals who are comfortable under democrats. Not a policy.

Anyway, it's not lesser evil to native Americans whose treaties and agreements get disregarded under both parties, whose land still gets stolen and exploited despite the treaties, and who still have blood quantum's enforced upon them to systemically eradicate their communities and take their land.

There is no left leaning party in the USA, the democrats are centrist right at best, they do not represent the interests of leftist and socialist people. It is a fallacy to present the democratic party as in any way beneficial to the people, because the only people who will fall to that are white moderates who do not like to think about politics deeper than buzzwords during elections, as we have seen. The World and all its Charms

Charm is a lost art. Charm is what we expect when we come to a city called the Hostess City of Savannah. Take my word for it, as my husband and I officially became super-hosts...independent of any agency. And we also don’t put up with neighboring agencies who wreak havoc in the townhomes surrounding us - no matter which agency they employ - eye opening to some who found out through us just how bad it’s getting. Because we are about true hospitality for both guests and neighbors. Some people never learn. I’m grateful for those who do. The city putting its foot down is a step in the right direction. That’s the Hostess City I’m talking about. I’m preaching to the choir for those who also live in highly touristic Airbnb towns. It’s all about balance & talk about an act... On that note, the opposite of a mark of hospitality, a book reviewer should never have to be described by a reviewed writer as one who “incorrectly states some facts and omits others.” Letter to the Editor, April/May 2019. Meet the Jetsons, right. These people are not just other worldly...they are lost in space. As for Bernie’s thoughts on Israel taking tRump’s cues on not allowing members of Congress to visit there...even if - in the one case - Netanyahu flipped (bc of Tlaib’s grandmother)...not so fast. Banning members of Congress should come at a price - to the tune of billions in military aid. Playing fair sometimes means playing hardball. That occurs even when one is as hospitable as a super-host. Or good old Bernie Sanders. That’s an expression, not a judgment. No age discrimination, please. Some of us are not just super-hosts, we are super-agers, like Bernie and the list of candidates in the presidential line-up. For quality people everywhere, no matter what your demographic, I got one question for you... Can you spell “Misogynist,” “Xenophobe,” and “Narcissist,” because I know I can. How about let’s define charm and actually not just use it but insist on others behaving in the same way. At the end of the day, don’t ever let the narcissists or their distractions get in the way.
